TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

The following passage from Music Education for High Schools by Arthur E Ward says a lot about the "whys" of studying singing:

1. Singing widens culture through providing insight into the thoughts and feelings of other people.

2. Singing enriches the imagination

3 Singing increases intelligence and happiness and gives pleasure to one's self and friends.

4. Singing strengthens health through deep breathing.

5. Singing improves the power, quality, endurance and correctness of the speaking voice.

6. Singing strengthens the memory and power of concentration.

7. Singing releases pent-up emotions.

8. Singing develops self-confidence and a more forceful, vital and poised personality and leadership qualities.
